SAMURAI Kimono

Konbanwa(Good evening)!! How was your weekend??? ^^

The cloth for kimono is 12-13 meters long in 38 centimeters wide. The unit system which measures a kimono is "Kujira-jyaku". The name "kujira-jaku" was derived from the fact that the ruler used for tailoring cloth was made of flexible baleen.

Some say that the kujira-jaku could have been derived from koma-jaku used before the Taiho Ritsuryo code. "Taiho Ritsuryo Code (大宝律令)", the first law code in Japan was enacted in 701, which had been chosen and implemented before the transfer of the capital to Heijo-kyo (the Imperial Palace of JAPAN from 710-740 and again from 745-784).

Have a beautiful week!!!!!!!!!!!!

Odawara Castle, "Tokiwagi Gate"

Odawara Castle, yesterday's blog: http://bit.ly/wM60ri

In the Edo Period, the castle was scaled down by the Okubo Family, the ruler of Odawara Castle after the fall of the Hojo Family. The next ruler, the Inaba Family was renovated into a modern castle style. In 1703, most building in the castle was collapsed by the Genroku Earthquake. After then, the Okubo Family reconstructed the Castle Odawara served as the political headquarters of Kanto region until the end of the Edo Period.

This gate was the main entrance of the main bailey of Odawara Castle and the most strategic place for the defense of the castle. The gate was named "Tokiwagi (Evergreen)" because there were black pine trees nearby.

We hope you like Japanese History!

Ikebana - The Slanting Style

Japanese Witch-Hazel, Lace flower and Tulip.

The Slanting Style: The Slanting Style is a floral form that expressed the beauty of branches and grasses that grow slanting down. This floral form evokes a greater sense of movement than the Upright Style does.

Odawara Castle

Today we visited Odawara Castle.

You're interested in SAMURAI??

"Odawara Castle" faced three major attacks by "UESUGI Kenshin" in 1561, "TAKEDA Shingen" in 1569 and "TOYOTOMI Hideyoshi" in 1590. The last siege by Hideoyoshi was the end of the Hojo clan's supremacy and the castle was turned over to "TOKUGAWA Ieyasu". In the final siege by Hideyoshi, he brought all his generals from around the country with about 200,000 troops to bear on Odawara Castle.

We hope you Love Japanese Castle!
