When people think of the art of the tea ceremony, what most often comes to mind is the traditional chanoyu tea ceremony using matcha, or powdered green tea. There is, however, another very old style of tea ceremony called senchado, in which sencha, or leaf tea, is used.
Not just ordinary leaf tea is used in the senchado tea ceremony. In fact, in most cases, a tea called gyokuro is used. Gyokuro is the very finest of all Japanese teas, made with special techniques seen nowhere else in the world.
